How To Check Antivirus Knowledge Base
How can I check to see if antivirus, firewall & auto updates are all working without security center for xp? My security center disappeared so how do I look to see if all is working okay. I have McAfee antivirus, but can't open it, but when I talked to a Dell tech he told me not to worry that I can't open it & not to mess with it, that it's working fine. So I never need to do an antivirus scan on my computer? 1) How to check firewall,antivirus & auto updates are running? 2) Don't need to do antivirus scans on my computer? THANKS!
How do I remove this stupid antivirus and antispy check on my computer? Somehow, a program called Advanced Antivirus and one called Antispyprotect got put onto my computer. They are very annoying. Popups and system alertsoccur every minute telling me I have viruses and I need to activate the program. I tried to remove the programs from the control panel, but I could not find them on the list. If I don't get rid of these programs, the popups are going to drive me crazy. Someone please help me rid myself of this problem.
ClamWin antivirus worth having to check periodically? I was recommended ClamWin antivirus program to have to check my computer periodically as it does not interfere with my AVG antivirus. How good is this thing? It takes a long time to go through checking my computer.

Which folder/file locations should I make my Antivirus software check everyday? With my busy lifestyle, I tend to interrupt my full system scan on almost daily basis. I was wondering that running antivirus on most crucial locations (commonly targetted folders/files) would be more feasable for me and then I can run full system scan on weekly basis. So which locations should I chose? Thanks for your expert opinion. ps- Windows XP system
my antivirus started its daily check -what does this message mean? A box has appeared stating in red "virus identified Worm/Generic.HPV. Is this serious and do I have to do anything? Box has now disappeared so cannot tell if scan is complete. AVG anti virus.

I tried also the "save target as" function, and a message shown : "Internet Explorer cannot dowlad from void(0), no such interface supported". That is to say, I cannot open and save the attached file. I tried on my other mails and their attachements (eg. JEPG file, less than 1 mb) too, the moment I double clipped the file and the system hung again (Not responding). I have to relauch the internet and go to my yahoo acount and mail again. These happened recently.

Help? My computer laggs alot lately. I ran antivirus check, nothing came up? Lately i install two antispyware, called Spybot and Ad aware. However after these two programs, my laptop started to freeze and lag more often. Can it be that i install these two? i still have 30 out of 60 gbs. Also i had a dialer named coulombo detected and removed? Am i in any danger now since i use Cable? I also had imvu messanger installed for like a week and half and i removed it. Is imvu causing this and is it dangerous to have it? Also, i ran a check up with AVG but nothing cameup! I also installed Trillian messanger and maplestory. ARe they both dangerous? Maplestorry seems to lag when i play the game. Do all games lag? Also, computers run faster when you don't have as much uselss programs, right? I know there are so many questions to answer but i am really slow in computers and that i really have a hard time to understand it. I really don't want to defragmentize my computer. How to check those virus/worm/trojan horse that is undetectable by antivirus check? Or rather is there a way to make my pc 100% free of these threats? I know there is some in my pc, I read from the symptom that it tends to restart itself, sometimes shuts down itself, and sometimes closes applications itself. But when I run virus check (avast) the report says it's fine. And some cant be fixed, ie source files not found. I am very worried that if I dont get rid of the small problem now they might eventually cost me more to fix. Thanks.

How can I monitor my internet traffic? OK, my computer seems to be constantly sending and receiving data from the web. Even when there are no programs running there are still green and red 'traffic bars' shown in zone alarm icon... I've run spyware checks and antivirus checks, but something is still connecting to the web every time my computer is on?? I have Avast antivirus and I want to know if you can check viewed websites like you can on McAfee.? I want to see websites that have been viewed by all users, even if they have been erased in the Windows Clear History. I used to be able to with McAfee, but I do not have it anymore.
Does Norton Antivirus run on your computer with Ad-aware installed?Is Adware virus protection or just a cure? We had virus/spyware so we ran Adaware and Spybot. We have norton antivirus. When I check security settings through Windows it tells me no virus protection detected. Is this because Adaware is voiding out Norton. Norton homepage tells me our system is secure.

I Fully recovered my computer and got it back online, then after i installed the antivirus, it locked up? the icons dont open and the computer feels locked down. How do you configure Norton Antivirus to let you download Turbotax updates? Someone I know just bought Turbotax 2008 and she is trying to download the required updates. Her Norton Antivirus Firewall is not letting her so she went to the settings, configurations and Turbotax is not found in the list of items to click that can be bypassed. What antivirus software should I use with this problem? I curently have a problem with my PC. It seems that it has a virus that kees me form shutting my PC down. It keeps restarting even if I choose the shut down option. My current antivirus software is updated and I have tried other softwares but it seems this virus is unknown because it cannot be cured by the latest softwares. My PC is also only 1 month ols so PC hardware is not the issue in this (and I have also checked if it is a hardware problem). My problem is I keep unplugging my PC for it to shut down and might cause damage somehow to my PC or AVR. Does anybody have the same problems? Can you please help me on how to solve this. xpsp2 OS. explorer.exe restarting every 5 seconds. spyware n antivirus checking done but problem still there.? I have xpsp2 OS. Explorer.exe seems to be corrupted and is restarting every 5 seconds and am not able to use any of the icons and start button on the desktop. The only saving grace is i could use run command from the windows taskbar manager. I could open the programs from the run command. I tried some good antispywares like spybot, yahoo and avast. I also have antivirus programs like mcafee and avast. Can anybody has the solution for this? Does reinstalling windows will solve the problem or is there any good solution?...Please help me friends !.....Thank You.

Is XP antivirus a scam? I was at a website and all of the sudden, what looked like a legitimate Windows message box popped up that said "If your computer is infected, you could suffer data loss, erratic PC behaviour, PC freezes and crahes. Detect and remove viruses before they damage your computer." (behavior and crashes were misspelled in the message box) It goes on to say that XP antivirus will check my computer for free, when I hit cancel it took me to a page with another (cheesey looking) message box and is asking me to download the file. I'm sure I shouldn't download, but even when I click the ignore button I get 'do you want to run or save this file', I hit cancel and am taken back to the cheesey looking message box. Do I have a virus? Am I at risk? How do I close that page?

How do I update AVG Antivirus in a pc with no internet connection? I tried downloading the Priority Updates, Recommended Updates, and Optional updates from this page - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/24/us/frt/0 and copying them to my flash disk drive. Then I plugged it into the pc with no internet connection. Then I opened AVG Antivirus and clicked Check For Updates and clicked Folder, indicating that the updates are in a folder (in my flash disk drive). This doesn't seem to work. Why?? Any suggestions?

Question about antivirus and firewall settings..? I have Windows 98, and I was wondering how I can check my firewall settings and antivirus settings and allow downloads from a certain site. I didn't want to mess anything up and make a mistake since I don't know what I'm doing.
