I have tried Kaspersky which is an all in one protection suite but I found it slowed down my computer and wasn't worth the price I paid for. I am now using the free version of AVG and am considering zone alarm as the firewall. Both are freely available. Are the commercial AVG and zone alarm any good? Ubuntu, Do you need antivirus,firewall software ? As you can probably tell I am a Windows user but Ive seen how good Ubuntu is and I decided to give it a go on a spare PC of mine. Ive got it all installed,which used up some of the old grey matter. I am however most impressed, especially seeing as its free. Now to get back to my question. I have heard you dont need antivirus software, firewall etc. with Linux. Is this true ? If I do need to install some kind of security, could someone be so kind to point me in the right direction. I found that Norton slowed my computer down a fair bit, you could see the difference when Norton was turned off, are there any that do not effect the computers performance? whats the best FREE firewall antivirus/anti spyware software? after recently having to reformat my computer because norton let LOADS of spyware through, i was wondering if anyone knows a better free alternative to use? we are running xp home adition. i am still baffeled why this happened, as norton has usualy been good for me for catching viruses, but all of a sudden it let all this spyware through and there was nothing i could do. it was all up to date aswell. was free with BT, so hadnt run out or anything. but after this i do not trust it so an alternative to protect me from spyware adware viruses and a firewall would be great and i will remove my norton. please could i have your opinions please?

Which antivirus & firewall is the best? Please give ur answer which can fit this configuration. Intel Celeron 1.40Ghz, 226 MB RAM, 40 GB hard disk. I used Norton Antivirus 2007 but it slows down my pc. I've read a lot abt other antivirus softwares before posting this question. All seems to have adv. & disadv. Which 1 do you suggest? I cant connect to my AIM or LimeWire, I have No firewalls or Antivirus software blocking it, Any ideas???????? I recently had my computer serviced, it was starting improperly so they fixed some stuff in the BIOS, and prior to that it worked fine. I dont see any problems with Firewalls or Anti-Virus software, just areally confused young man right now.
