What is the top freeware antivirus and firewall software around? I have tried Kaspersky which is an all in one protection suite but I found it slowed down my computer and wasn't worth the price I paid for. I am now using the free version of AVG and am considering zone alarm as the firewall. Both are freely available. Are the commercial AVG and zone alarm any good? Are there any antivirus and firewall software, which are freely available and are effective in their protection?
Are there any good freeware antivirus and firewall programs that are Vista-compatible? If you can help me, I appreciate it. If you just want to vent about Vista, save yourself the effort. I've already heard it, and believe me, I feel the same way myself.

Best combination of WinXP firewall+antispam+antivirus? Must: autoupdate, work, autoconfig, light on resources. I am going to do a clean reinstall of my WinXP SP2 PC and I want it fast, efficient, secure. Can you point me to a RELIABLE combo of: personal firewall, antivirus, antispam? Absolute requirements are: autoconfiguration, autoupdate, efficiency, light on system resources. Freeware a plus. Please no evangelical and pointless debates: only real life benchmarks and first person experience, thanks. The goal is an install-and-forget secure system, but fast. Otherwise I'd stick with the Norton suite. (please refrain from techie jokes here). Thanks in advance for your help.
Best stand-alone freeware firewall? Antivirus = Antivira. Antimalware = Malwarebytes. Registry/cache cleaner = CCleaner. I need a firewall that's JUST a firewall, & hopefuly won't have any problems with my other security software.
can anyone suggest me a good firewall. Freeware only? I recently had some major problems with Norton security services on my Pc. Their effectiveness caused me to have to reboot my entire pc and lose all data plus some interesting software. This has lead me to find a good free security kit. I already downloaded AVG antivirus and now I'm looking for a good firewall that's either free of charge or available for pennies. If anyone can recommend a spyware blocker I would be greatly interested too. Best suggestion wins him/herself 10 points

Windows Live OneCare ran out- Renew or diff. Antivirus? My windows liveonecare subscription ran out today so I'm av-less. Should I just renew or use different software? I want something that protects against viruses, spyware, adware, trojans, rootkits, just ALL the bad stuff out there. A firewall would be great, but sometimes they're not that good. I've heard Kaspersky is a great solution but it's very expensive. Internet security has everything while it's antivirus has everything but a firewall. Is there a good freeware firewall that works well with Kaspersky, has the highest ratings (works just as well or better than paid for firewalls), and doesn't hurt system resources? Basically, I'm choosing to renew Live OneCare or to buy Kaspersky AV and get a freeware firewall. Should I just renew, or what freeware firewall is as good or better than paid firewalls and easy on resources? I have Vista Business 32-bit with 2.0GHZ dual core processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 335MB vidram, and 50GB free HDD space. Help?
What is the "Best" free antivirus? I am looking for a very good antivirus. I used to have the one Optimum Online offers for free "E-Trust Ez Armor" But it was very weak and could not detect many viruses at all. It didn't search for ad-ware, spyware etc. I recently have downloaded the Comodo AntiVirus and FireWall combo. I have heard a lot about the FireWall and PC Magazine has recognized it also. Though, I hear the A.V. is very young and still cannot detect all viruses. I need something that can protect too (not just scan like the BitDefender Freeware).
Best freeware system tools for windows XP ? (internet security / ram optimization / defrag / registry)? After a lot of personal research, straightforward testing, and lessons learned, I came up with the following freeware solutions for keeping my system up and running. FIREWALL - COMODO Firewall Pro ANTIVIRUS - AOL Active Virus Shield (based on Kapersky) - a-squared free ANTISPYWARE - SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition - Microsoft Windows Defender - SpywareBlaster - McAfee SiteAdvisor REGISTRY CLEANER - Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal - CCleaner ANTISPAM - SpamBayes DEFRAGMENTER - Speedfrag (a bit akward to use at first, but simply the best one available for free) MEMORY OPTIMIZER - Cacheman All those software are free to everyone for personal use, they are also easy-to-use, non-intrusive (almost no pop-ups windows) and low-memory consuming. My laptop is now booting up in 55s with 659 Mb of free RAM available (out of 1Gb total), and is decently fast. I consider it good, but I would like to make it even better.. Any advise?

Limewire Pro wont connect? I previously used Limewire (freeware). It worked perfectly. But i wanted faster downloads, so i downloaded the Pro version. It wont connect. It's connecting for about 20 minutes and nothing happens. Version: 4.8.1, Java 1.6.0. AntiVirus and firewall disabled.

Security software for Vista? I have had problems with viruses etc since moving to Vista. I am going to wipe my laptop and would like recommendations on what security software (freeware please) I should be installing when it's clean. I don't trust the Vista firewall so I need one of those (will I need to disable Vista firewall if running another?), antivirus (I have AVG now which is telling me there'll no longer be free updates soon), anti-spyware (running Ad-Aware now) as well as anything else you recommend. Appreciate any help.
What should I do? I am considering deleting Norton Internet Security 2007 and downloading either AVG or Avast for antivirus protection. Also, to take care of spyware, I was planning on downloading Spybot Search and Destroy. Would this be a smart thing to do, or should I just stick with Norton? The Internet Security programs supposedly gives me firewall, spyware, and virus protection so I would be deleting it and replacing it with antivirus (AVG/Avast) and anti-spyware (Spybot) but then I do not know if I would have a firewall. The reason I am doing this is because Norton only finds a cookie or two when I run a full system scan, while other free scanners find hundreds of problens. So basically I am wondering if I should do this or keep Norton, or maybe you have an even better suggestion...I just want to make this computer faster. I already bought Norton, but I would definitely switch to some freeware program if it speeds up my computer. Thank you in advance for your help!
