Ubuntu, Do you need antivirus, firewall software ? As you can probably tell I am a Windows user but Ive seen how good Ubuntu is and I decided to give it a go on a spare PC of mine. Ive got it all installed, which used up some of the old grey matter. I am however most impressed, especially seeing as its free. Now to get back to my question. I have heard you dont need antivirus software, firewall etc. with Linux. Is this true ? If I do need to install some kind of security, could someone be so kind to point me in the right direction. Many Thanks.

bypass norton antivirus 2006 password? i've got a situation which involves someone who has alaptop with a trial of norton 2k6 on it. Sadly? this trial has now expired in as much as he can't get updates or stuff like that. Of course, theres a password which prevents me from doing stuff to it so he can't switch to avast yet. Also its interfearing with his firewall; not letting him add exceptions. Is there any registery key that i could decript or bf or what ever? Does this have to be done under linux or what? Thanks, BEN.
vista and xp connection problem? I have one desktop with XP and a laptop with Vista in a small home network (including an adsl router). The connection speed between the two computers is very low. I have tried to de-activate firewall and antivirus but nothing changed. I have also a linux partition in the XP desktop and when I boot with linux, the speed is fine. Is there any problem between XP and Vista? Thanks in advance for the help

My dad has a serious po*n problem and fawqed up the computer. HELP!? OK, so he's been to alot of bad websites, and now Windows XP needs to be completely wipped out! I've tried System Restore and it will not work. It works in Safe mode, but he refuses to use this as it has no sounds, and he doesn't want to push F8 each bootup. The problem is that when you get to the login screen (blue screen), you can click on any account you want, this thing pops up and wants you to click "yes" or "no". Either one you click, it restarts the whole computer. I've ran scans from Xoftspy and mcafee antivirus, but it won't find anything! I've given up! I can't reinstall Windows XP because windows activation will stop me from doing that! Its only 30 days! So I'm thinking about giving him Linux! Are there any security flaws with it? Is there a firewall for Linux. I haven't done anything to the computer yet, but I'm thinking about giving him Ubuntu or Slax. He won't stop looking at it, and no I don't live with him. thanks God, because that computer is loaded w/porn

windows XP Pro Network Places Problem? hello, i only have one pc xp pro and the other is suse linux 10.1. i am not worried about networking right now. but i would like too. my MAIN PROBLEM i am having is when i go to start --> My network places --> then when i click on "View workgroup computers" , my xp pro machine just sits there and waits and then gives an error like "MShome not accessible. Please contact your network administrator for permissions" (something to this effect). i connect to a router via DHCP. i have Kaspersky antivirus and XP SP2 firewall. i know i was messing around with the local security settings trying to get my xp box networked with the linux box and perhaps this screwed it up. IS THERE A WAY TO RESULT LOCAL SECURITY SETTING BACK TO DEFAULT OR, AT LEAST, BE OPEN TO ANY KIND OF NETWORK SHARING(or to reinstall the networking part of XP only)???? Thanks !!!! Markee.
