  8. i've gone through this myself, i think the best way to get some is to o to a file sharing source and get a cracked version of a real one, i use to only use free, then i actually got a paid program and my computer is wayyy better for it, i noticed a massive improvement and next time i'll pay the 20 bucks or whatever cause it was wroth it.

  11. I don't really have any info about the others, but I like PC Tools for constant protection and I have also used the free Trend Micro scan. I haven't had any problems.
  12. AVG offers a decent product. I would still use the kaspersky.com free online virus scan weekly. It is very thorough. If you have Vista turn on DEP (data execution prevention), and the firewall. Works for me. Good luck

  14. I would highly recommend paying for an anti-virus. I had AVG up until a few weeks ago and still ended up with a Trojan horse that actually attached itself to my AVG files along with 17 other files on my computer. I had no way of getting rid of it without reformating my computer which cost me $85. I would definantly pay for an anti-virus now. If you are military you can download McAfee or Symantic for free off your AKO account.

These two are competing: avast! antivirus Home Edition (free with annual registration) and AVG antivirus Free Edition (free, no strings attached) I personally prefer avast! because AVG requires a restart after EVERY update.
