Antivirus Software?
I recently switched from an expensive virus software to a free one that came highly recommended. The only problem that I have had so far is that the new software slows my computer down dramaticaly. It is fine when it is scanning, but when it isn't, it seems to be running high when it shouldn't be. Does anyone know of great virus software that won't slow my computer down?

- Anne All antivirus software that runs IN REAL TIME, will consume your resources and slow you down. Anti virus software that runs ONLY WHEN YOU manually scan it will not slow your computer down, but it wont protect you as well. The best method is to use NO antivirus software which you can do if you switch to open source software because you are less likely to get infected with a virus with open source software. One is www.kubuntu.org and download "feisty fawn".

On the other hand, its always good to install more than one anti-spyware.
- Try Avast. It has a free version and a very cheap pro version. If you want I can also give you my key for the pro version (contact me by email for that). Its the best anti-virus I have seen.
- kaspersky antivirus is the best of all.but if you are using avast which is a free antivirus software.it will serve your purpose well.keep your antivirus definition upto date.as occasionally new engines and virus definitions are provided by antivirus services.which i know will not make your pc slow.

- I like Active Virus Shield. A lot. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world. In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test. Full test chart is here: http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82 Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram) Active Virus Shield detects and removes spyware, also. And it updates up to 15 times a DAY with new virus definitions, 7 days a week! Good stuff, free for everyone from: http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?
